READ YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENTS !!!

Yesterday around dinnertime I got a call from Ticketmaster.  I thought it was a marketing call and was ready to hang up when my ears picked up the word fraud.  "Excuse me, could you please repeat what you just said?!!"

Long story short...some SOB (yes, I do mean SOB) used my credit card number to purchase sporting tickets!!!  Ticketmaster suspected fraud and contacted me to verify the purchase.  NO.  I did not buy over $1500.00 worth of tickets!  They suggested I contact my local police, which I did.

The officer called me back tonight to let me know they have info on the thief and  will attempt to prosecute.  I say throw his/her arse in jail!  Thieves are doing this to so many people.  To me it is no different than robbing me personally.  I still feel violated!  It is NOT a victimless crime!

So be sure to check your statements carefully and notify your credit card company and local authorities if you find anything suspicious!

    1. This is the third time it has happened to me, personally. It has happened three times to my husband also. We only use American Express credit cards, specifically because they are so good about calling if there is something suspicious. This time Ticketmaster beat them to it! The second time my card was hacked my son investigated online (my card was used to open a website) and found the person's name, address and even picture...which we forwarded to the police. Yesterday the policeman warned me that they may not be able to prosecute, but his second call last night confirmed that they HAD gotten enough information about the person to move forward. Hope they nail him/her/them!

  2. After having someone cash one of those Visa cheques that come with your statement I always check mine closely. Like you I felt violated.

    God bless.

    1. I could understand if the thief was in dire straights and needed the money, but these thieves are "living large" as the policeman said. I think they should sentence them as if they walked into my home and robbed me!

  3. You didn't happen to use your credit card at a Target store, did you? (You did call the credit-card company, too?)

Last year, credit-card company called and asked if I'd made a $1,000 purchase at some online store. Er, no. They shut down my account and issued me a new card. Two months later, I got an e-mail from an online fabric store ... said their data had been hacked and my account might be at risk.. Gee, you think so?

    1. Nope I didn't use it at Target, lol. In fact, I heard about Target on the radio when I was on the way to the police station. American Express cancelled my card immediately on Wednesday night and over-nighted me a new card (for holiday season shopping, lol). These hackers are criminals and should be treated as such! J has always wanted to be a "white hat hacker"...the guy companies call in to test the vulnerability of their computer systems. I'd say it is a pretty growing field!
